Vitality for Life provides intensive outpatient treatment for seniors having difficulty coping with life’s challenges—such as depression, anxiety, unresolved grief, worry, isolation or loneliness, sleep or appetite changes, anger, difficulty with health and physical changes, difficulty concentrating, feelings of helplessness or hopelessness, and low self-esteem. Along with the patient and family members, the treatment team of nurses, a psychiatrist, social workers and therapists works together to coordinate a treatment plan. Call 775.782.1599 to learn more. Around CVH New imaging equipment reduces patients’ wait times HERE AT CARSON VALLEY HEALTH, we know that it’s what is on the inside that counts most. That’s why we’ve been busy replacing our older imaging equipment with brand-new, state-of-the-art equipment, including two operating room “C-arm” machines, a portable X-ray, a CT machine, and ultrasound and mammography systems. Our new equipment will do more than provide a clear picture of your body for your healthcare team. It will also help cut down on wait times by letting us see more patients per day, because more advanced equipment takes less time to perform each procedure. Portable imaging equipment has also been updated, allowing first responders to bring potentially lifesaving equipment to the patient instead of needing to bring the patient to us. CVH is finalizing other major equipment purchases as well, including a new MRI, SPECT/CT and X-ray. CVH’s Imaging Department is at the center of our expansion plans. It will border the emergency and operating rooms as well as the patient floor, for faster access. When the new building opens in July 2024, all imaging equipment will be no more than five years old. “This is huge, not only for CVH, but for our community as a whole,” says Patty Smith, medical imaging manager. “We want to make sure our patients can stay in Carson Valley for their care, and we are committed to that end.” Since January 2023, we’ve updated another ultrasound system, two echocardiogram systems and an interventional radiology room with a live X-ray that allows our radiologists to perform interventions such as biopsies, kyphoplasties and port placements. THE DANGER: falls, stumbles, collisions—and potentially serious injuries. Phones down, heads up! Walk this way: Keep your focus on what’s in front of and around you. Stop walking and move to a safe place to check your phone, text or take calls. Skip the earbuds or turn down the volume to hear what’s going on around you. A HEADS-UP… ABOUT DISTRACTED WALKING It’s a modern-day problem. You’ve seen it, and you may have even done it a time or two— distracted walking with a smartphone. Talking on the phone. Listening to music. Sending texts.
